The New York Times Magazine eventually caved and wrote a story on Prague in December 1993. The title ‘YAP’ (Young Americans in Prague) was a play on the word ‘Yuppie’ (but never caught on). In re-reading the story now, I appreciated this line: ‘What unites the bohemians and the business types, the poets and Peace Corps idealists, is a conviction that history – to paraphrase T. S. Eliot – is now, in Prague.’ Image from David Speranza.
