The courthouse retains a faint postwar, communist-era vibe. This haunting plaque conveys lines of poetry extolling the Prague Uprising in May 1945: ‘The heiress of May, the barricades of Prague will stare into timelessness, her dead will be behind her, and the dead from the concentration camps and the dead from the prisons will set up patrols to guard the future.’ Photo by Mark Baker.
